About Me

My name is Roger Thomas. I'm the subpostmaster at Llanbedr Post Office where I live with my mother and our cat, Felix. We moved to North Wales from Staffordshire in 1985. I have two brothers, one is an IT consultant and the other a physicist.

Computer My first experience with computers was in the mid-seventies with a Tandy TRS-80 sporting 16Kb RAM and twin floppy drives. We used this machine for the accounts in my father's business with programs written in Basic by one of my brothers. There were no software packages available then apart from a few text mode games — if you had a computer you had to write your own programs!

Some years ago my interest in computers was re-kindled after I borrowed an old XT from my brother in an attempt to become computer literate (some hope!). A few months months later I bought my own machine, a 16Mhz 386SX and installed Windows 3.1. I then progressed to a 486 DX2-66, running Windows 95, which I converted to a Pentium P166MMX before building a 400Mhz Pentium II. My present machine is home built with a 1400Mhz AMD Athlon processor.

Fishing the River Artro During the summer months I used to spend some of my spare time fishing. Angling on the River Artro is controlled by the local club, the Artro and Talsarau Fishing Association. Day, week and season tickets are readily available to visitors. The Artro is a spate river, with good runs of sea trout and a few salmon. Best time for fishing is usually after dark, unless the river is in flood when fishing during the day provides the best sport. As well as the river the club has fishing rights on several lakes:

A 10lb 8ozs salmon caught on worm during a spate Just to prove that I do sometimes catch something here's a couple of photographs of a River Artro salmon caught on worm during a spate; the fish weighed 10lbs 8ozs. A 10lb 8ozs salmon caught on worm during a spate
